FAQs

  • What’s the best time to lay new turf?

The great thing about Queensland is that we can successful lay turf any time of year! Winter installation will demand less watering – but your new lawn will also establish itself more quickly in the warmer months. There are pros and cons to both (which pretty much even out) and we’re happy to talk you through it.

  • How long do you have to leave turf before you can walk on it?

It’s best to wait at least 3 weeks (depending on conditions), so your turf has a chance to ‘bed’ into the soil and take root. When it’s ready, you won’t be able to lift the turf when you give the corner a tug. If you have to walk on it for any reason, be very careful not to disturb the seams and edges. A deeply established root system can take about 6 weeks, so limit traffic in the early month or so!

  • When can I start mowing my new lawn?

Wait until the new turf is firmly rooted (3–4 weeks), then use the highest mower setting and make sure the blade is sharp.

  • How often do I need to water my new lawn?

Water it as soon as it’s installed. Then you need to keep your new lawn moist and ensure it doesn’t dry out. Freshly laid turf needs to be watered at least a couple of times a day, every day, for the first couple of weeks. It also depends on conditions: warm or windy weather might need more watering (up to 4 times a day). Don’t completely flood it: just ensure the turf and underlying soil is moist. Once established, you can decrease the watering to a standard schedule for the turf variety you’ve chosen.

  • Should I fertilise my new turf?

It’s a good idea to fertilise your new turf 4–6 weeks after laying, followed by a deep watering. We recommend a lawn starter (also called a lawn booster) at this stage.

  • Can I pick up my turf?

Yes, we offer both pick up or delivery of fresh, cut-to-order turf from our Gympie or Sunshine Coast farms. (Easy non-contact delivery and payment options are available.)

  • How long does it take to deliver my turf once I order?

We pride ourselves on fast turnaround, often providing same-day delivery or within 24-hours of ordering.

  • If I’m doing it myself, how soon should I lay my turf after it arrives?

As soon as you possibly can! Ideally, it should be laid on the day of delivery and watered immediately. If that’s not possible, lay it the following day at the latest.

  • Can you install my new turf?

Absolutely. We can supply and install turf for any home, commercial, school or sporting project. Enjoy the (hassle-free) efficiency of fully trained turf professionals for the best possible results.

  • What is the best drought-tolerant lawn?

We often recommend Nara Native Zoysia – it’s really low maintenance and very drought tolerant. It’s a good choice for areas with low rainfall or water restrictions. See our quick reference guide for more information.
